Amber Benning Receives Recognition at 2015 Kansas Collegiate Media Conference

Amber Benning of Caney , KS and fellow Kansas Wesleyan students, plus KWU faculty, were among 160 students and media advisors representing 17 Kansas colleges and universities at the 2015 Kansas Collegiate Media conference held Sunday-Monday, April 12-13 at the Drury Hotel in Wichita.

KWU journalists received two awards for the weekly student-run Advance newspaper and the Coyote yearbook staff earned six awards and honorable mentions.

Accompanying the Coyotes at the conference were Dr. David Silverman, faculty advisor for the Advance, and Chealsea Weaver, adjunct yearbook advisor.

For the Advance newspaper, Amber Benning, '16 (Caney, KS), took Second Place in Front Page Design and Katlyn "Kat" Davis, '18 (McPherson, KS), took Second Place in News Photography.

Judged on their 2014 book, the Coyote Yearbook received a Bronze Award in the Overall Yearbook category and First Place in the Theme Development category, based on the concept by Elizabeth Dickey, Dec. '14 (Gibsonia, PA) and Taylor Klover, '15 (Hiawatha,KS).

Also for the 2014 Coyote Yearbook, Ashley Moon, Dec. '14 (Spokane, WA) received Second Place in the Sports Page Design category and Dickey received Second Place in the Feature Photography category. Ciara Stallbaumer, '15 (Centralia, KS) received an Honorable Mention in the Headline/Art Headline Design category, and Klover received an Honorable Mention in the News/Event Photography category.
