Asiria Ramirez Receives Award During KWU Student Juried Art Exhibition Reception

Asiria Ramirez of La Habra , CA was honored during the Reception and Awards Ceremony of the Student Juried Art Exhibition held in The Gallery at KWU, in Sams Hall of Fine Arts, from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016.

The KWU Department of Art and Design hosted a Salina First Thursday Art Rush event, which was attended by students, family members, faculty, staff and community members.

Exhibition juror Linda Foster selected the works for display from among 150-200 pieces submitted by students for her consideration in the areas of drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, illustration, graphic design and 3D design. The juried student art show is the culmination of many hours of hard work by the students during the school year. If their artwork is selected, students receive the honor of having their art displayed in a gallery setting.

Foster selected the works of these artists for the top awards in the exhibition:

Best of Show: "Meeting, Comedy, Business" Orion Hughes '17 (Marana, AZ) - Photography Series

Best of 2D (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking): "Home" Asiria Ramirez '17 (La Habra, CA) - Drypoint

Best of 3D (Sculpture, 3D printing, Ceramics, Jewelry): "Gold Rush" Emma Reitz '17 (Seneca, KS) and Mitchell Byers '17 (Buhler, KS) - Collaboration of 3D printing and modeling (board game and pieces)

Best Photography or Design (Photography, Graphic or Web Design): "Waiting" Kari Grogan '16 (Concordia, KS) - Photography Series

In addition to the exhibition awards, KWU Department of Art and Design faculty Lori Wright and Neil Ward presented these departmental awards:

Art and Design Leadership Award: Asiria Ramirez '17 (La Habra, CA) Robbin M. Ward Visual Arts Scholarship: Emma Reitz '17 (Seneca, KS) Senior Recognition Award: Zach Richter '16 (Salina, KS)

The Student Juried Art Exhibition will be on display in The Gallery through Wednesday April 13, 2016. The Gallery is open weekdays 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and weekends by appointment. Admission is free.

Juror: Linda Foster Linda Foster holds an M.F.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and taught drawing, design and artists' books courses at Santa Barbara City College, in both the Credit and Adult Education Divisions. In 2010, a desire to live near aging family members brought Linda and her husband, Ron, back to their mid-western prairie grass roots and Biking Across Kansas adventures. They bought, then sold, the Miltonvale Record, their town's weekly newspaper. Linda draws, paints and writes, and she is a member of the Kansas Figure Drawing Group, which meets in Bennington, KS.
