Autumn Zimmerman Contributes to KWU Debate Second Place at Sweetheart Swing Tournament

Autumn Zimmerman , of Concordia , KS, contributed to the second place finish for the Kansas Wesleyan University Forensics and Debate team in the school debate sweepstakes at the 25th Annual Sweetheart Swing, co-hosted at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, on Feb. 12-14, 2016.

The field of 18 colleges and universities at the tournament also included co-host West Texas A&M University, University of Texas, Texas Christian University, University of Alabama, North Texas State University, Oklahoma City University, Cameron University, Tarrant County Community College, Tulsa Community College and Wiley College in Marshall, TX, which gained fame in the film "The Great Debaters" starring Denzel Washington.

TEAM RESULTS Freshman Josh Davis (Los Angeles, CA) won first place in Novice Parliamentary Debate; senior Amber Benning (Caney, KS) finished third in Open Lincoln Douglas Debate; and freshman Autumn Zimmerman (Concordia, KS) won first place in Open Lincoln Douglas Debate. Benning also won Outstanding Speaker for the tournament. Also competing and earning points for the KWU Coyotes were sophomore Katie Merrill (Arvada, CO) and junior Tanner Bowles (Cawker City, KS).
