Autumn Zimmerman Helps KWU Debate Win School Sweepstakes at Texas Christian University

Autumn Zimmerman of Concordia , KS, made a valuable contribution that helped to propel Kansas Wesleyan University Forensics and Debate to a first place finish in the school debate sweepstakes at the Tolson/True Swing tournament at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. In a field of more than a dozen schools, TCU, North Texas State University, Wiley College and Tarrant County Community College followed close behind the winning Coyote team.

RESULTS: The team of senior Kris Lewis (Salina, KS) and sophomore Dakota Yates (El Dorado, KS) placed first in Open Parliamentary Debate; senior Amber Benning (Caney, KS) and junior Alex Vore (Olathe, KS) took third. Freshmen Autumn Zimmerman (Concordia, KS) and Jacob Studebaker (El Dorado, KS) claimed first in Novice Parliamentary Debate. Senior Nick Fowler (El Dorado, KS) took first in Open Public Debate, freshman Josh Davis (Los Angeles, CA) placed second in Novice Public Debate, and senior Alex White (Van, TX) finished fourth in Public Debate.

Winning speaker awards were Fowler, who took first in Public Debate, and Lewis, who finished second in Parliamentary Debate.

In individual events, Yates placed first in Extemporaneous Speaking, second in Impromptu Speaking and fifth in Communications Analysis. Davis was Top Novice and placed fifth in After Dinner Speaking. Sophomore Katie Merrill (Arvada, CO) placed fourth in After Dinner Speaking.
