Dakota Yates Contributes to Kansas Wesleyan's Second Place Finish in School Debate Competition at National Tournament

Dakota Yates of El Dorado , KS made a contribution that enabled the Kansas Wesleyan University Debate and Forensics team to place second overall in the school debate competition for the entire weekend at one of the largest debate and individual events tournaments in the nation, The Missouri Mule, held Oct. 16-18, 2015 at the University of Central Missouri. About 40 schools attended the tournament, and among the schools KWU topped were the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Western Kentucky University.

RESULTS SUMMARY: Helping the Coyotes to earn that second place honor were senior Kristofer Lewis (Salina, KS) and sophomore Dakota Yates (El Dorado, KS), who placed 3rd in the Parliamentary Debate tournament; freshmen Autumn Zimmerman (Concordia, KS) and Jacob Studebaker (El Dorado, KS), who placed 3rd in the Parliamentary Debate Tournament; Yates, who placed 9th in the Saturday Lincoln Douglas Tournament; and Zimmerman, who placed 3rd in the Novice Division of Sunday's Lincoln Douglas Tournament.

KWU students receiving awards for outstanding speaking were Zimmerman earning 1st place speaker and Studebaker named 3rd place speaker in Parliamentary Debate novice division; and Zimmerman finished with 4th place novice speaker both days in Lincoln Douglas debate.
