Kansas Wesleyan's Kelsey Plummer named as NAIA Volleyball National Defender of the Week

Kansas Wesleyan senior middle hitter Kelsey Plummer of Westmoreland has been named as the NAIA Volleyball National Defender of the Week for her efforts for the Coyotes last week.

Plummer was also named the KCAC Defender of the Week on Tuesday.

Plummer had an amazing week of front row defense for the Coyotes, helping KWU claim a share of the KCAC Championship. She averaged 2.00 blocks per set for the week. She had 12 blocks in KWU's win over Oklahoma Wesleyan, added eight more against Friends and had five against Bethel. The senior also set two new school records this week for the Coyotes, setting a new season total blocks record in the OKWU match and then setting a new season assisted blocks record in the Friends match. Plummer leads the NAIA in total blocks and in blocks per set and is helping KWU lead the NAIA in blocks as well.

Her offensive numbers last week were impressive as well for a middle. She averaged 2.83 kills per set while hitting .282 on the week with 34 total kills.

KWU went 3-0 last week, picking up wins over Oklahoma Wesleyan, Friends and Bethel to close out the regular season and earn a share of the KCAC Volleyball Championship. The Coyotes finished the regular season 24-8 overall and 19-3 in the KCAC setting a new school record for conference wins in season.

Kansas Wesleyan is the No. 2 seed in the KCAC Volleyball Tournament which begins with pool play on Thursday at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson.
