Tanner Bowles Contributes to KWU Debate First Place Finish in Tournament at Southeastern Oklahoma State University Oct. 23-25, 2015

Tanner Bowles of Cawker City, KS (67430) and the rest of the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyote Debate and Forensics Team together took first place in both the Debate Sweepstakes and the Combined Sweepstakes at the Storm Classic Swing Speech and Debate Tournament on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma University in Durant, OK, Oct. 23-25, 2015.

Among the participating schools were Texas Christian University and Missouri State University.

In the first half of the tournament, freshman Autumn Zimmerman (Concordia, KS) was awarded 2nd place speaker in Parliamentary Debate. In Lincoln Douglas Debate, sophomore Dakota Yates (El Dorado, KS) and junior Alex Vore (Fort Scott, KS) tied for 3rd place. Senior Amber Benning (Caney, KS) was awarded 1st place speaker and Yates was 2nd place speaker. Junior Tanner Bowles (Cawker City, KS) won the Top Novice award and placed 5th in Informative Speaking. Sophomore Katie Merrill (Arvada, CO) placed 6th in Program of Oral Interpretation.

In the second half of the tournament, Vore and senior Nick Fowler (El Dorado, KS) closed out the finals in Lincoln Douglas Debate, tying for 1st place. Benning placed 3rd and Zimmerman placed 5th. In Informative Speaking, Yates placed 4th and Bowles placed 6th. Merrill placed 6th in Program of Oral Interpretation. In Extemporaneous Speaking, Yates placed 1st and freshman Jacob Studebaker (El Dorado, KS) placed 4th. Yates also placed 2nd in Communications Analysis and 4th in Impromptu Speaking.
